Research in this group is focused on the study of the macroscopic property and microscopic behavior of surface-based nanostructures controlled by chemical and physical events. The areas of current interest include:

The principle investigator is Dr. E.G. Wang. In the theoretical part, there are two staffs, Dr. E.G. Wang, and Dr. Wengang Lu. The methods are used in our computational simulations are VASP, LMTO, KMC and ab initio MD. In the experimental part, there are two staffs, Mr. S. Liu, and Dr. Xuedong Bai. It is equipped with various modern facilities with surface sensitive probes such as scanning tunneling microscopy, high resolution electron energy spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Auger electron spectroscopy, low energy electron diffraction in this group.  A basic philosophy that guides us in the group is that it is the unfettered scientist who will make the important contribution. Our research moves forward because thus person has the freedom to do the unique and unexpected.
